Simple healthy breakfast recipe – Trying healthy yet time-saving recipes for my toddler is my mission. For homemade-baby-food-recipes I usually try the instant versions. So that I can make some quick breakfast and snacks for my toddler and husband, which will be tasty and won’t lack the healthy part too. It turned out to be one of the best simple healthy breakfast recipes.
I started giving Rava Dosa to my baby when she completed 8 months. Slowly and gradually I started adding different veggies to this dosa batter. This is one of the tried and tested homemade baby food recipes.
I tried making these appams with similar batter of rava dosa., as I wanted to try my new Sumeet appam pan which I recently ordered from Amazon.in, (Sumeet 3mm Nonstick Designer Appam Patra 12Pc With Handle and Lid) and surprisingly it turned out to be delicious, with minimal oil / ghee usage. And yet another one in the list of excellent baby finger food recipes.
half cup Rava / Semolina (Fine or Superfine versions)
4-5 spoons curd
1 medium sized carrot – grated
3 teaspoons rolled oats (must add for healthier benefits)
1 medium sized cucumber – grated
1/4 cup coriander finely chopped
OR 1/4 cup spinach finely chopped (Or you can combine the both to 1/4 quantity)
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
2 teaspoons oil/ghee for tempering
1 teaspoon oil/ghee for greasing the molds.
Salt as per taste
1 pinch baking soda / Eno – Fruit Salt (optional for babies)
Water as required
Veggies as per your choice like grated carrot, beetroot, grated cucumber, green peas and boiled corn

Take Rava / Semolina in a bowl.
Mix well and keep aside for 10 minutes.
Now the rava would have soaked all the moisture. Add some water to it and bring it to idli like consistency.
Add oats, salt, coriander/spinach.
Add grated cucumber and carrots.
Add water to adjust the consistency.
Now heat oil 2 teaspoons oil in a tempering pan.
Add mustard seeds and let it crackle.
Add this temper to the rava mixture. Mix well.
Now add baking soda / Eno / Fruit salt to the mixture and again mix it well.
Grease the appam pan with oil / ghee.
Heat it on high flame and bring it to low flame as soon as ghee reaches the smoking point.
Fill all the cavities (molds) with the batter and close it with lid.
Check it after 4-5 minutes and turn all the appams to the other side and let it get cooked from both the sides.
Switch off the flame and Serve hot with Coriander/Coconut chutney.
PS: You can alter the veggies as per your choice.
Also, can add a pinch of dry fruit powder to enhance the health benefits for babies.
