Authentic Kerala Cuisine is always a delight to have. But here in Mumbai you can find very few places which serve that. There was a time when we used to have a chance to visit Keralite friends’ places on Onam and have that delicious meal on banana leaf with a wide variety of spread.
But now after a decade, when all have got settled in different parts of the country; we just can be nostalgic about the food and warmth of their family. There were many free lunches when we were not earning. And now when we earn we don’t get that aroma and flavours of the Kerala food & of course no free lunches at all.
Then this was a random visit to a newly opened small eatery called Appam & More. Though this visit was unplanned they have a good plan of Kerala Delights. Be it Veg Or Non Veg, you won’t get disappointed with your sudden visit.
Place is small and can occupy 16 people on ground floor whereas it has sitting area on first floor too which was not open when we visited the place.
Our order contained 2 plates – boiled eggs, 1 prawns curry, 1 sada dosa, 1 onion uttapam, 4 neer dosas (set of 3 dosas each), 1 egg masala & half portion of steam rice.
Boiled eggs were served slightly fried, and tasted too good with salt and pepper.
Prawns curry was up to the mark.
Sada Dosa and onion uttapam were tasty and aromatic.
Their sambar was beyond perfection. Aromatic, little tangy, spicy, full of vegetables and super delicious. This one was the Second Gem of entire food serve. And I ended up asking for some extra sambar to relish on.
Neer dosa was just perfect as a bread to go with any dish. Very soft too.
And then this king (First Gem) arrived. Egg Masala. We have been eating out Egg dishes a lot, but this one was extra ordinary. Boiled eggs stir fried in thick gravy and garnished with big pieces of green chillies, cooked in coconut oil. It made our day. And did not want to eat anything else to avoid spoiling the taste of this last dish.
It was mouth watering and extremely delicious. Really different with the regular egg dishes we have had at other places. Never ever tasted this kind of Egg Masala. And willing to have it again at the earliest.
**Disclaimer – All the dishes are prepared in 100% natural coconut cooking oil which has no chemical, solvents or additives.
And the real delight to the pocket was we ended up paying the bill of just Rs. 600/- (for 4 people).
We got So much for so Less!!!
They have Kerala meals options on the menu, planning to try it on our next visit.
Moral of the story –
Appam & More Serves Authentic Kerala cuisine which is extraordinary & pocket-friendly too.
PS:- This is an authentic & honest restaurant review of own experiences, not being paid for the same.
