Waiting for summer vacations meant a lot to us. And the preparation for the vacations used to start from at least two months in advance. Buying new clothes, footwear, in-house games like ludo, snakes, and ladders, and some snacks were so well planned to have a hassle-free vacation of our native place Konkan and Mamachya gaavala jauuya was the frequently hummed song of all the siblings.
Vacations Spread Happiness
This vacation used to long for approximately two months, from the first week of April to the first week of June. And this was the only period in the year when my mother used to get some time to spend with her mother staying at least 350 kilometers away from Thane. And for us, the major attraction of this 2 months long vacation was The Aamras. Mango is said to be the King of fruits, but Alphonso (Haapus Mango) is undoubted kind of mangoes.
Being nostalgic about those days is quite natural. Those lazy afternoons, tubs filled with fresh Alphonso mangoes our crazy games to be played with cousins, and plates full of jackfruits’ pulp was a routine for us. That childhood is unforgettable. Ajji is no more, so there is no more warm welcome and Ajjicha khau for us. Moreover, as we got busy with our careers and personal lives, these yearly trips became less frequent.
We cannot bring back those days. But can surely try to indulge into some sort of enjoyment is what we do. In summers we can buy some Alphonso mangoes from the local market and have some Aamras at home. In our childhood at Ajji’s place, we never counted the mangoes we ate as we never purchased them. But now we have to go to the market and bargain for per dozen rates of mangoes.
When I got introduced to this amazing drink – Product Review
Once this mango season is over, we have to wait for the next summers. And in between, we try to satisfy our thirst with some artificial mango flavored drinks available in the market. Some taste good but some taste just like a sugar syrup. Very thin consistency is what I hate the most. A mango drink has to be thick and pulpy. And that flavor should be natural, not that the one is too sugary and filled with artificial mango flavor.
I have tried almost all the available mango drinks in the market. Including my childhood love Frooti. Other available brands are Maaza, Tasty’s and Slice mango. Out of these Frooti and Maaza are a bit closer to the mango drink category whereas other brands are just the sugar syrups with added mango flavor. And then I dared to try this new entrant called “Paperboat Aamras”. Its packaging was attractive. And Paper boat word again made me nostalgic about childhood rainy seasons of making a lot of paper boats and playing in the rain water which doesn’t really happen these days.
So I purchased 2 packs of Paper Boat Aamras (500 ml each) from a nearby supermarket as there was a good deal (Buy 1 get 1 free 😀 ). Refrigerated the packs and poured the juice in glasses for next day’s breakfast. It was very thick. Thicker than any other mango drink available in the market (Except actual mango juice). It felt good to see the thick Aamras and not a mere mango drink. I must say this is the best mango drink in India.
How was the feel?
We had it for breakfast and loved the taste and texture. It was quite near to a real aamras though it contains around 45% of real mango pulp and other ingredients are water, sugar, and some spices to enhance the taste.
Now Paper Boat Aamras is my favorite drink whenever I won’t have real aamras. Paper Boat’s other products are equally good and I have tried many of them. So the expectations are always high when Paper Boat brand launches a new product in the market.
PS: This is a genuine review of my personal experiences, and all the claims are personal opinions too.
