We start our day with breakfast. It’s breaking fast of long hours after sleep. So it should be wholesome and healthy to give a boost to our entire day. But did you know that the breakfast items which are popular in India can be so unhealthy to start a day with? And we also need to be careful while putting these food habits into our kids.
Chhole Puri / Puri bhaji (aloo) –
In many cities, people start their day with Puris served with chhole or aloo ki subzi. It is one of the most popular breakfast item in the country. But having deep fried Puris with Puris with potatoes with added oil and spices is not the right thing to start your day with.
Stuffed Parathas –
Parathas are a must in any North Indian house for breakfast. But then stuffed parathas, fried in oil and topped with butter and pickle aside is not a healthy combination for sure. They are loaded with unnecessary calories which can lead to an unhealthy body forever.
Medu Vada –
A popular south Indian delicacy, medu vadas are fried urad dal (black gram lentil) vadas and because they are made out of dal, they are considered healthy. But in reality, the black gram lentil that it is made of, is difficult for the body to break down first thing in the morning and along with this, it is also deep fried. They are hard to digest.
Cutlets consist of veggies but then it has major portion of potatoes and that too a fried version of it then how it can be healthy. And it becomes a heavier dish to have in the morning to break a fast. If you go for a baked version rather than a fried one then it can be a little healthier.
Instant Noodles –
All the noodles are made of maida with preservatives, added flavouring and added starch and wax to make it non sticky. Can our body really digest wax. No, it definitely cannot. PS: The atta and oats variants too contain unhealthy ingredients into it.
Canned Juices –
Though they claim to be Real and Natural, they are not. They are just processed fruit juices with added preservatives for a longer shelf life. How can they maintain same taste throughout the year for a specific juice. Can you get a fruit of same taste every time you buy it? No. So they balance the taste with the added colours and flavourings.
Better munch on some homemade fresh juices and whole fruits instead of these packed health disasters.
French Toast –
Eggs, either boiled or scrambled, itself are very healthy to have as breakfast, but dipping bread in them and then deep frying certainly is not. Instead, toast some brown bread, make the egg of your choice separately without oil, and enjoy it with fresh homemade juice. That will give you a healthy, wholesome and power-packed breakfast.
Biscuits with Tea / Coffee –
Wheat biscuits too have a lot of maida unless you bake them at home yourself, which is almost impossible. Tea and coffee, on the other hand have caffeine. Having a bowl of fruits or a glass of milk with some dry fruits is better.
Halwa Puri –
Halwa that has a lot of sugar and ghee combined with deep fried puris is a disastrous combination for your health.
Sabudana Vada –
Sabudana vada has become a must must have for breakfast and for a fast too.
Even though sabudana is a very healthy thing to eat, frying it into vadas isn’t. and sometimes it has added potatoes into eat. A definite no for breakfast or any fasting day. It’s very heavy to digest and so you may feel bloated the entire day.
